Pickering earns notable degree

Members of the community are celebrating British Virgin Islands native Jahnai Pickering, who obtained his Physical Therapist Assistant Associates Degree on May 9 after he completed studies at Keiser University in Florida, United States.

Pickering is an upstanding BVIslander and resident of the First Electoral District, said his employer Therapy Works BVI, which added that the youngster now joins the “handful of locals credentialed” in physical therapy.

He joined Therapy Works on July 1, 2013 as a physical therapist aide, but he quickly showed interest and much promise in the rehabilitation field.

Chief Executive Officer of Therapy Works Dr Jerry Smith recognized Pickering’s talents, and enrolled him in Keiser University’s Physical Therapist Assistant programme in 2015.
“Mr Pickering will return to the BVI and Therapy Works to provide services to the community this summer after completing his board exam and becoming a licensed Physical Therapist Assistant. Mr Pickering now joins a very small handful of locals credentialed in the field of physical therapy,” said Therapy Works BVI.

Physical therapy, also known as physiotherapy, is a physical medicine and rehabilitation specialty. It remediates impairments and promotes mobility, function, and quality of life through examination, diagnosis, prognosis, and physical intervention. It is performed by physical therapists (known as physiotherapists in many countries).
