A pregnant woman who stole her co-worker’s $1,000 cellular phone four days after he purchased it has been fined $3,000 for theft.

Nineteen-year-old Khalisha Stoutt will serve six months in prison if she does not pay the fine by August 3.

“You just destroyed your future… All people will see is a thief. That’s what you’ve done to yourself. That’s what you’ve done to your child,” Magistrate Ayanna Baptiste-DaBreo told the offender while handing down the sentence.

The prosecution reported that, on June 4 last year, the complainant bought an iPhone 6S.

On June 8, he left the phone on his desk at work to do some deliveries.

When he returned, the gadget was missing.

About two months later, the complainant saw Stoutt with a phone that was similar to his.

He called the police.

Stoutt reportedly claimed that she received the phone from her boyfriend while in Puerto Rico.

However, checks revealed that the serial number on the phone matched that on the manufacturer’s box that the complainant had kept.

Stoutt was taken into custody.

During a police interview, she admitted that she saw the gadget at work and took it.

It is reported that she told police further that she ‘waited a while’ before she used the phone.

During Stoutt’s court appearance this month, Magistrate Baptiste DaBreo asked her why she should not be imprisoned.

The offender responded: “I am getting a baby so…”

Magistrate Baptiste DaBreo, before delivering judgement, noted that, if Stoutt is sent to prison, “nothing would be gained” to the complainant or to the unborn child.

“This type of behaviour is not acceptable,” the magistrate further said.

That condemnation was uncalled for from the magistrate.

Her life is NOT over or permanently ruined.

And this minor infraction has no bearing on her child. Shame on you Ayanna.

I guess because she is “pregnant” in front of you it hit a nerve, but please exercise professionalism in your given position. Smh.
