Public sector pay delayed; time-sheets required
While announcing a delay in the end-of-September payroll for public sector workers, the government headed by Premier Dr D Orlando Smith said public servants are now required to submit time-sheets in order to be paid.
A release from the Government of the Virgin Islands said the new policy came into effect yesterday, October 2.
Government said the policy is in a bid to ‘promote accountability and to validate the payment of salaries’.
It added: “Time-sheets are mandatory for the processing of payroll. Public officers are required to complete and submit weekly time-sheets to their respective department heads for hours worked.”
“Department heads will then submit time-sheets to the Compensation and Benefits Unit of the Department of Human Resources to process payroll from October 15th and each pay period thereafter,” the government further said.
It added that public workers may collect time-sheets at the front desk of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Labour on the second floor of the East Wing at the Central Administration Complex, Road Town.
“Timesheets will also be distributed on the sister islands and are available online at www.bvi.gov.vg/services/employee-timesheets,” added the government.
A number of public sector workers contacted BVI News Online yesterday to complain about not being paid at the end of September.
The government later said workers will receive their end-of-September pay next Monday, October 9.
It added that the delay in payment was caused by ‘technical challenges’.
