Police have held a suspect in at least one of several robberies that unfolded on the island of Tortola last last year, usually reliable sources have told BVI News Online.

A young man who resides at Lower Estate has been taken into police custody in relation to the robbery at Hunthums Ghut Service Station on the night of December 12.

Police, late this week, swooped down on the suspect who is a native of the British Virgin Islands.

They executed a search warrant at the young man’s residence and allegedly found various items including a pair of black gloves and a number of cellular phones.

Up to publication time, it was not clear if police had charged the suspect, who reportedly is still being held at Road Town Police Station.

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) recently reported that the operator of Hunthums Ghut Service Station had just entered his vehicle after closing the establishment when a masked man with an object in his hand approached the businessman.

The robber instructed the victim to hand over proceeds.

The hoodlum then took a bag containing money from the front passenger seat of the businessman’s vehicle, said the RVIPF.

The robber was then joined by a masked accomplice who used an instrument to deflate one of the tyres on the businessman’s vehicle.

The two criminals then fled the scene on foot.

No one was injured in the incident.
