PRESS RELEASE: Senior students of four secondary schools and one primary school across the British Virgin Islands last week received a donation of 658 copies of the book, Secret Code: British Virgin Islands, courtesy of 10 corporate sponsors and the author Mrs Mitsy J. Ellis-Simpson.

Also donated were an additional 10 books for teachers and school resource centres as needed.

The books were due to be donated in September but was delayed due to the overwhelming hurricane season which has caused destruction to schools, libraries, personal belongings, homes and businesses. However, no natural disaster will diminish our community’s resolve to rebuild a stronger BVI.

The schools that benefited from this donation are St George’s Secondary School, Virgin Islands Technical Institute, Elmore Stoutt High School, Bregado Flax Educational Centre and Jost Van Dyke Primary School.

The donations will continue with three other schools throughout next week. Secret Code: British Virgin Islands which was launched in June of this year covers a wide variety of topics including chapters about BVI history, government structure, national insignias, law and order, education, financial services, tourism, health, architecture, pioneers and industry leaders.

It is expected to be beneficial to students as they continue to learn more about the BVI and its economic history and simultaneously provide inspiration through past accomplishments as the Territory enters the rebuilding phase after the recent hurricanes.

The books were generously sponsored before the hurricanes by Carey Olsen, Martin Kenney & Co., Harneys, Medicure Ltd., Scotiabank, Hunte & Co, Clarence Thomas Ltd, Nibbs Auto Parts, O’Neal Webster, Trident Trust Company (BVI) Limited and the author.

Mrs Ellis-Simpson also donated a check in the sum of $3,000 to the Ministry of Education & Culture which should be specifically used to assist with any historical, cultural or performing arts projects that will benefit the Territory in restoring, documenting or advancement in these areas.

The author would like to thank all the sponsors for making the donations possible. Secret Code: British Virgin Islands is available for purchase in local shops such as Serendipity Bookstore on Main Street and Olde Yarde Village in Spanish Town.

Persons or corporations that wish to purchase a book may do so also at www.secretcodebvi.com or on Amazon.
