Government workers are being told the public service will be open for business today (July 9) as normal.

Deputy Governor David Archer, Jr gave the notice amid concerns about the Tropical Storm Beryl, the remnants of which are now affecting the territory.

“Weather conditions will be monitored throughout the day. Any departments where working conditions have been affected by the rain should communicate with their Permanent Secretary and at that time a decision will be made about the closure of the office,” the Deputy Governor said.

“We are entering the rainy season and the peak of the hurricane season and we should remain in a state of readiness at all times,” he added.

In the meantime, Beryl has also impacted at least one local ferry service — Virgin Gorda Transport, more commonly known as Speedy’s.

Below is the revised ferry schedule for Speedy’s.

It is an open secret that a dark cloud meking up is excuse for many to stay home. So what is the prospect of getting people to get people to turn out for work with a tropical storm passing close to the territory? A cultural change is needed; up tick and sustain national productivity is neèded. Though a dark cloud just meking up will keep many at home in the BVI, nonetheless, when we migrate to the US, UK or Canada we raced through snow, sleet, heat or rain to get to work on time. In these places, nothing make one appreciate his/her job more than a strong dose of unemployment.
