Taxi operators and their vehicles will undergo inspections when Disney Cruise Line makes its return to the BVI on August 28.

Director of the Taxi and Livery Commission, Dameon Percival is, therefore, advising taxi operators to get their affairs in order and start making preparations for the cruise ship’s arrival.

He did not state whether there will be penalties for taxi operators who are not found to be ‘in good standing’ with cruise taxi regulations.

He said: “Taxi drivers should prepare for the upcoming Disney calls by making sure their vehicle is in top working condition, and they have all of their paperwork up to date and on hand.”

Taxi operators are also instructed to wear the cruise pier-approved attire when reporting for duty. Their hands-free PA systems must also be functional, Percival said.

The Disney is one of two major cruise lines that cancelled all scheduled calls to the territory following the onslaught of the 2017 disasters. The other major cruise company is Norwegian Cruise Line.

The Norwegian cruise is expected to resume operations in the territory in October.

  2. No nonsense says:

The age and level of education of the drivers need to be seriously looked onto. There MUST be a cut ofd age for this professional profession. On both rhe government and insurance side. A special English and BVI history test MUST be administered on order to be a licenced taxi driver in the bvi
