Another pageant contestant taken to hospital

Another contestant has been taken to hospital after falling ill during a pageant held as part of the 2017 Emancipation Festival in the British Virgin Islands.

Tecora Morgan did not finish her campaign to become Miss BVI 2017 last night because she fell ill during the competition, which was held at the Multi-Purpose Sports Complex in Road Town.

Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) were called to the venue after Morgan began to experience problems with her lungs.

“This was a pre-existing condition. It was a pre-existing situation prior to this evening, which unfortunately got the best of her. So we will, of course, continue to keep her in our prayers,” said one of the emcees of the show Zoe Walcott-McMillian.

Explaining why the 21-year-old contestant did not show up for the Evening Wear segment of the pageant, Walcott-McMillian told audience members: “Tecora Morgan has been whisked away by the ambulance, so she will be unable to conclude the pageant this evening.”

Later in the competition, members of the audience were told that Morgan was returning to finish making her case for the crown. She however did not show up.

Her condition, up to publication time, was not clear.

Meanwhile, a similar incident happened last week during the Miss Junior BVI pageant. Rosa Industrious, who was competing, apparently fainted while on stage and had to be taken to hospital by EMTs. She, like Morgan, did not finish the competition.
