Two disturbances showing signs of development

The territory has been put on alert once more after weather forecasters discovered two other weather systems developing in the Atlantic Ocean.

The Department of Disaster Management is urging persons in the territory to continue to pay close attention as the systems move closer to the Northern Leewards Islands.

Two tropical disturbances located in the eastern Atlantic are showing signs of development as they meander across the Atlantic.

According to the National Hurricane Centre, a tropical wave located about 850 miles west-southwest of the Cabo Verde Islands is producing disorganized cloudiness and showers.

Environmental conditions are expected to be conducive for gradual development of this system during the next several days, and a tropical depression will likely form early next week while it moves westward at about 15 mph across the tropical Atlantic.

There is a 80 percent chance of development in the next five days.

A second tropical wave producing showers and thunderstorms associated with an area of low pressure located about 300 miles south of the Cabo Verde Islands have continued to become better organized this afternoon.

Environmental conditions are expected to remain conducive for development, and a tropical depression is likely to form tonight or Friday.

This system is forecast to move westward to west-northwestward at 10 to 15 mph across the eastern tropical Atlantic during the next couple of days. There is a 90 percent chance of development in the next five days.

Persons in the British Virgin Islands should continue to pay close attention to the progress of the systems as they get closer to the Northern Leeward Islands.
