Two more tropical waves threatening BVI
In addition to the weak tropical wave influencing current weather conditions in the British Virgin Islands, the Department of Disaster Management (DDM) this afternoon said two other tropical waves ‘may have an effect on the territory later this week’.
In relation to the current tropical wave, the DDM said a flash flood watch or warning may be issued as there is a high chance that the territory will face more showers and even thunderstorms over the next two days.
“Weather conditions are expected to be cloudy tonight with a 40 percent chance of showers, then increased cloudiness tomorrow with a 70 percent chance of showers, and a 40 percent or medium chance of afternoon thunderstorms,” the DDM said in its latest release this afternoon, October 9.
The agency added that the current conditions are as a result of a deep layered trough interacting with the weak tropical wave.
“Beyond Wednesday, a more stable and less moist atmosphere will yield little shower activity under generally partly cloudy skies,” added that DDM, which noted that the information it provides is from a number of professional sources – including some that are contracted.
Meanwhile, sections of the territory that are still recovering from two category 5 hurricanes last month experienced further flooding last night.
