University graduate pleads guilty

Weeks after he completed university in the United States last year and returned to his homeland, Adonijah Lettsome was arrested for marijuana.

The 24-year-old appeared before Senior Magistrate Tamia Richards today (June 23) for possession of two grams of marijuana.

He pleaded guilty to the charge.

The prosecution reported that, on November 21 last year, police were patrolling Long Bay Beach on Beef Island when they observed Lettsome and another male standing next to an inflatable dinghy.

Lettsome was smoking a joint.

While law enforcers searched a bag the youngster was carrying, they reportedly discovered a relatively small quantity of marijuana.

The cops charged Lettsome.

Lettsome, in court this morning, said: “I had just got back last year after studying in New Jersey. That day I was on the beach cooling out with my little brother… I didn’t have no intention to harm anybody. It’s just a recreational thing.”

Lettsome however told the court that recreation time is over, and he is now focused on his profession.

“Honestly, I ain’t in relaxing mode [right now]. I’m in the mood to get my self in order,” he said.

Senior Magistrate Richards subsequently granted Lettsome $25,000 signed bail, and ordered him to get drug counselling.

Lettsome is scheduled to return to court in September.
