Local authorities are clueless about the unusually loud explosions that echoed shorty before 11pm on Monday in various sections of the British Virgin Islands – especially in the Sea Cows Bay area.

Residents as far as Cane Garden Bay also reported hearing the loud blasts.

According to one journalist, close to 10 explosions were heard in relatively quick succession.

When BVI News Online contacted the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) yesterday to get some answers, the police did not seem perturbed about the bizarre sounds.

RVIPF Information Officer Diane Drayton, in response to questions posed, was only prepared to say: “No reports were made to police.”

The Department of Disaster Management as well as Her Majesty’s Customs also said no one has made any report to them about the explosions.

Representative of the Third District Julian Fraser, in the meantime, said he did not hear the explosions but will look into the situation.
