VG committee: We made a good choice

No one had been crowned Miss Virgin Gorda Easter Festival since 2014.

A number of young ladies initially expressed an interest in wearing the crown during this the 50th anniversary of the Easter festival, but virtually all of them pulled out as the months progressed.

In the end, 20-year-old Alondra Ephraim was the only woman left standing.

She possesses intelligence and other qualities expected in a Virgin Gorda queen. As a result, her crowning was a no-brainer, according to Public Relations Officer of the Virgin Gorda Easter Festival Sub-Committee Adrianna Soverall.

She expressed confidence that the new ambassador will live up to her community’s great expectations.

“We had a number of contestants early on in the year and, as time progressed, Alondra was selected by the committee to be the queen. The others decided to delay competing this year for various reasons… At the end of the day, Alondra was left and she still qualified.”

“Alondra is an amazing person. She has the personality, the physique; she is young and passionate. She is working; she is from Virgin Gorda,” Soverall further told BVI News Online while noting that the new queen is also the grand-daughter of Rupert Ephraim, a founding member of the Virgin Gorda Festival and Fairs Sub-Committee.

Soverall further said: “The committee made a good choice with Alondra, and she is willing to be an ambassador for Virgin Gorda.”

Alondra was crowned last evening (April 12) during a ceremony at Fischer’s Cove Beach Hotel, where Miss Virgin Gorda Easter Festival 2014 Tecora Morgan passed on the crown.

The new queen, during the coronation ceremony, showcased her platform, cultural costume, swim wear, and evening wear.

She promised to be a stellar ambassador for her island.

“As my journey begins, I look forward to being a catalyst for change in our small community. My intention is to be a role model and a beacon that the youth of the BVI can look up to,” said the new Miss Virgin Gorda Easter Festival.
