Repair work will commence shortly on the St Thomas Bay Jetty and Cargo Ramp in Virgin Gorda, said the Ministry of Communication and Works.

It added that the work will be carried out over a period of 30 days.

The ministry explained that operation of the ferry terminal will be temporarily relocated to accommodate ferry, cargo, and vessel-clearing operations while the dock is under construction.

Acting Managing Director at the BVI Ports Authority (BVIPA) Alfred Henley noted that the dock is the main one for entry into Virgin Gorda, adding that the impending upgrades include reinforcement to the existing jetty.

“The scope of works entail the laying of a wearing slab with steel reinforced concrete on the existing jetty, repairing and replacing bollards, placing new bollards for the cargo ramp and pouring a concrete slab on the entire apron, as well as the installation of lighting on the apron,” Henley said.

He further stated that the arrangements and start date will be communicated to stakeholders via the radio, as well as the government’s website and Facebook page.

“We will take all the necessary steps to ensure we expedite these works as quickly as possible to minimise the inconvenience to the traveling public as well as cargo operations,” Henley added in a media release from the Government Information Service.

It said operators are asked to cooperate with the BVIPA to ensure all services at the jetty continue in an efficient manner.
