VG school to lose principal, assistant principal

The next school year will start without the current principal and assistant principal being in charge at Bregado Flax Educational Centre (Secondary Division) on the island of Virgin Gorda.

Both of them will retire on September 1, according to information published by the government.

Glenda Stevens assumed leadership of Bregado Flax Educational Centre two years ago. Before that, she was a teacher at Elmore Stoutt High School.

The start of her tenure as principal in September 2015 automatically ended Paul Fenty’s stint as acting principal at the school.

Fenty later became the assistant principal.

The government has not disclosed who will take up leadership of Bregado Flax Educational Centre (Secondary Division) when the new school year starts in September.

Meanwhile, in relation to appointments elsewhere in the Ministry of Education, the government stated that Arthur Selwood has had his “temporary appointment” extended from May 5 this year to May 4, 2019.

He has been serving as Education Officer responsible for school governance and principals.

    Lord please help us over here in vg.we will miss you both.the wrong people are leaving. some of those teachers are the ones that need to go.who feels it knows it.Just there for the pay check

    On the surface the minister makes education seem like the best ever but the truth is that he plays too much politics with our education system & it is really going to the dogs so no one with integrity & love for country will put up with this foolishness.

    A school is nothing more than a house, four walls and a roof.

    What makes that house livable and a place that satisfies the notion and comfort and shelter is the kind of occupants that enter it, their mind construction, what they do over time to construct, live and enjoy the purposes of that dwelling.

    Likewise, the school dwelling has the same notion and similar purpose, but with a distinct benefactorial benefit for individuals and society alike.

    Where notions of purpose, academic pride, self worth, foresight and values relative to all of those and more, and where those limitations harken back into the dynamics of poor to inadequate parenting, in most cases these days,a genuine societal focus on academic excellence, not just lip service, a focus that transcends from the top down, one that is lived and breathe and reinforced daily, as the bombardment of religion is, therein suggest some of the underlying issues relative to the demise of astute, capable, dedicated educational leadership in the territory.

    No present elected official is responsible for the horrific demise in education, moral, social and political values we see spreading their infectious legs before us today.

    The lack of basic home training; the inculcation of basic human existential human elements such as manners, respect for elders and authority, the understanding of and practicing of self control, discipline and self progress; these basic human elements have been abolished for the importation of another’s values and concepts of life, education, living and progress.

    As with the house, the reverence for, respect for and understanding of the purpose of that dwelling is paramount.

    If the respect for and understanding of is not known to the consciousness, and is not inculcated from birth, the critical existential years, no intended outcomes from any educational objectives will be arrived at, no matter the leadership in place.

    No personality will make that dwelling an inviting, progressive and enlightening place of learning.

    There has been a retardation and complete breakdown of past values, practices and methods of instilling those values and notions of basic humanity, survival and progress.

    One example: when society reverses the methods that have proven to work for centuries, gives the child the rights, powers and authority once assigned to the parent, teacher, authority and society, chaos will ensue, and that is precisely what this society is experiencing today. CHAOS!!! Visit any class room for one year on a daily basis and then prove that statement wrong!!!

    Society must recognize that there now exist, though years in developing, a complete and total annihilation of the values, educational, moral, social and even political that were once cherished, that have brought generations through subsistence living, farming and fishing because an ancestral people were no longer beneficial in making other people rich, but have now been eroded by outside influences and the evil dollar.

    Some written statement expousing that ideas sahred for intellectual analysis and even enlightenment are of 17th, 18, and 19th century dogma, suggesting old school intellectualism.

    Well, bite into this: to move forward, it is necesary to visit the past, so as to make the clear that much progress can be made. If history did not record the horrors of the holocaust, slavery and others, mankind will not know of them and some other mankind will be free to do the same atrocities all over again.

    Further, if one does not have the intellectual depth necessary to analyze modern day issues and respond with a modernity developed thought based on facts, analysis of those facts and a developed philosophy, that one can respect, then what is the purpose of responding?

    If the goal is not enlightenment, what then is the purpose? to demonstrate ignorance? There is too much of that in our everyday lives. Let’s have a good intellectual discussion, disagreement and a beer once ina while.

    All of most important values that have brought this culture from servitude, from isolation for a hundred for a hundred and fifty years have been ditched for accumulation of a valueless piece of paper.

    Our nation is in peril: our way of life. so hard worked for; so long it took from eating rocks and sand for so long to now on the verge of losing it all back to the occupier, who has returned after a hundred and fifty year hiatus with the most destructive human, educational and cultural tools in the tool kit.

    No more whips, mutilations, rapings, hangings, killings of every method and descriptions, but mere PSYCHOLOGY!!!!

    A book could be written, but this must end or they may sensor the whole pie.

    The principals of Breagado Flax love to play the favor game and suspend who they want. And they are the main contributers to the high percentage of failures within the entire school. Suspending the children who already slacking tremendously In Thier work. Find other ways of punishment man.

    The school staff soppose to ride for the students and not be against and battling them. -from experience
