Police have charged 29-year-old Deron Walters of Fat Hogs Bay on Tortola following the seizure of 14 blocks of cocaine, which the law enforcers said has a street value of $1.5 million.

He is charged with unlawful possession of cocaine, unlawful possession of cocaine with intent to supply, unlawful possession of marijuana, and resisting arrest.

According to police, the cocaine was found during a search of Walters’ vehicle in Baughers Bay yesterday morning, March 16.

Commissioner of Police Michael Matthews noted that the police officers were simply on patrol when they made the find.

“It is the extra efforts of my officers that brought about this discovery, since they were just on patrol in the area when the suspect was met and questioned. He [allegedly] became verbally abusive and, as a result, he and his vehicle were searched. I commend the officers for their diligence,” he said.

Investigations are ongoing in the matter, added the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force.
