Walters ordered to stay away from complainant

The court has ordered Fat Hogs Bay resident Deron Walters to stay away from Sherman Sebastian, the man he allegedly beat in a remote area of Tortola last year.

Magistrate Ayanna Baptiste-Dabreo gave the order during Walters’ recent appearance in court, where he was made to answer to the two criminal charges laid against him.

The accused pleaded not guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm and being armed with an offensive weapon.

He was granted $10,000 bail, and is scheduled to stand trial on May 15.

Walters’ appearance in court stems from a report police received on February 1 last year that led them to the complainant’s residence.

The complainant, who suffered lacerations to the hand, had to seek medical attention.

He informed police that, while he was in Fat Hogs Bay on the day in question, he met Walters and they had a conversation.

The court heard that they traveled to Parham Town in a white taxi bus that was driven by Walters.

On their arrival in Parham Town, Walters allegedly started to hit the complainant in the face.

The court heard that he then retrieved a knife and used it to further attack the complainant.

The complainant reportedly defended himself and asked Walters why he is fighting him.

Walters accused him of taking his dinghy engine without permission.

The complainant managed to flee the vehicle. But, during his hasty retreat, he fell and injured his elbow and knee.

The court heard that Walters gave chase and started to pelt rocks at the complainant.

Walters eventually was arrested and charged.
