Walwyn upbeat – CXC releasing results this week

“I am sure that both [CSEC and CAPE] results will be very good for the territory”- WALWYN

The Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC) results will be released on Friday, and Minister of Education Myron Walwyn said he believes students locally have done well.

The Caribbean Examination Council (CXC), which administers CSEC exams to school-leaving students in the territory, this week said: “CXC wishes to remind stakeholders that the May/June examination results will be released to candidates online on Friday 18 August 2017 at 10pm.”

It is the first time that students in the British Virgin Islands (BVI) are sitting CSEC subjects at the recently instituted Grade 12 level.

Before that, school-leaving students locally sat the exams at the Grade 11 level.

CSEC exams became mandatory for BVI secondary school leavers in the year 2014. Prior to that, the students sat the locally administered Secondary School Leaving Exams.

Walwyn, in an interview with BVI News Online yesterday, noted that a large number of students already sat their CSEC exams in 2016 before they proceeded to the new Grade 12 this year.

“As you would have seen from the graduation exercises that we had, the students performed quite well in CSEC [2016]. Many of them took them as early as Grade 11, which is an indication of their readiness. If they can take it a year early, then it shows that they are pretty advanced students – a significant number of them,” Walwyn said.

He also stated that he anticipates good results from Grade 12 students who sat more than the proposed minimum of five CSEC subjects.

CAPE

As it relates to students who sat the other CXC exam known as the Caribbean Advance Proficiency Examination (CAPE), Walwyn said: “I have the preliminary results for CAPE that I received [Monday] night. I’m taking a look at them. We intend to get the CSEC results pretty soon, and I’m sure that both results will be very good for the territory.”
