Residents were whipped into action on Saturday (January 6) after strong winds displaced temporary school structures on the western end of Tortola.
Primary students living in and around West End have been housed under tents at a field in Capoon’s Bay since Hurricane Irma caused severe damage to Isabella Morris Primary and Leonora Delville Primary.
Saturday’s freak gusts flipped at least one of the tents and left others bent out of shape.
First District Representative Andrew Fahie, as well as other residents, visited the location afterwards to restore the structures to their rightful positions.
The incident comes weeks after First District residents complained that their children were being taught under the tents.
Education Minister Myron Walwyn said this month that ‘contracts have been signed for repairs to the Leonora Delville Primary’ so West End students can be moved back into a permanent building.
