Twenty-seven-year-old Guyana native Charles ‘Winner’ Bakker is hoping to make waves on the music scene with his positive, just-released singles.

Bakker, who is a recruit firefighter at BVI Airport Authority, has been composing and compiling songs but never recorded them professionally until now.

And, while he has not yet graced any local stages, the up-and-coming star is pushing positivity in his lyrics with a view to effect change.

According to the artiste, he began singing from a ‘little boy’ and has been putting pen to paper for the past four years.

“These songs are positive, things that a regular man would go through,” Bakker, told BVI News recently.

Choosing positivity

Bakker was one of the artistes who responded to the call to produce more positive songs following the recent rise in gun-related crime in the territory.

“In this world, you have negative and positive and you want to choose the road that you want to go down. So I choose the positive one,” he said.

Shedding light on poverty

Bakker said he hopes his songs will make a difference and help bring needed assistance to the vulnerable and less fortunate in society.

“I speak about minimum wages, the pain of how people feel of when they are underpaid and the struggle to get out of poverty. Because there are a lot of people getting minimum wages and they have to survive off it and they are feeling the pain. But they are scared to cry out or go to somebody for help.”

The Guyanese native said he now has limitless hopes for his young career, adding that he has begun to upload his music to YouTube.

One of his latest releases, Father Show Me The Way, can be found on that website.
