A man who admitted to injuring his lover after accusing her of paying more attention to other men than him has been put on $50,000 signed bail.

Delwin Percival, 29, was granted bail after he pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

“I was wrong,” he said during his appearance before Magistrate Tamia Richards this month.

Reports are that, on September 5 last year, the complainant was enjoying an event at a male friend’s residence.

While there, she was joined by the accused with whom she had a relationship.

It is said that they conversed and had a few drinks.

The prosecution reported that, as the conversation progressed, Percival indicated ‘in a sudden outburst’ that the complainant was paying more attention to the other males at the event.

He reportedly dashed towards her and struck her in the head and face.

The court heard that the woman fled to the bathroom and barricaded herself there.

Percival reportedly coaxed her to open the door and, when she did, he administered ‘another round of beating’.

It is said that he also threatened to ‘dismantle her face’ so that no man would find her attractive.

Police were called to the scene.

They reportedly met the woman and saw bruises and other abrasions on her face and neck.

Percival was met some time later.

While he admitted to the offence in court, he claimed that there was never a second beating that allegedly took place in the bathroom.

“The bruises that she sustained was not really bruises. It was my nails; I had nails. That is what scratch her,” Percival explained to the court.

The magistrate ordered him to attend the Partnership for Peace Programme and to seek help at the Community Mental Health Department for alcohol abuse.

He will return to court on May 12.
