12 officers interdicted for misconduct

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) has revealed that a dozen of its officers are currently interdicted, primarily in connection with breaches of trust.

Acting Commissioner of Police Jacqueline Vanterpool disclosed this information during a press conference held on Wednesday, January 15.

“As I speak, we have 12 officers out on interdiction presently,” Vanterpool said. “Some have been arrested and charged and are before the court, awaiting the outcome of their trials.”

Vanterpool noted that the ranks of these officers predominantly include sergeants and constables.

“They were charged with aggravated bodily harm, assault, theft, and other various offences, but the main one was breach of trust,” Vanterpool stated.

One recent case involved Police Constable Earlando Baynes, who was charged with breach of trust by a police officer. According to the RVIPF, Baynes’ actions compromised a planned operation in November 2024, raising significant concerns about law enforcement integrity and operational security.

Detective Chief Inspector Kenrick Davis of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) highlighted the internal accountability measures that led to these investigations.

“The vast majority of investigations that result in police officers being arrested and charged emerged from within the RVIPF,” Davis said. “It’s other police officers who looked at their own colleagues and said they will not tolerate that behavior.”

Davis commended the broader force for their commitment to maintaining integrity within their ranks.

“While we should all be concerned about something going awry in the police force, we should also commend the rest of the force for identifying the issues and taking action,” he added.

These developments come amid the recent passage of the Police Amendment Act 2024 in the House of Assembly, which aims to bolster law enforcement accountability and capabilities.

If the BVI was independent these arrest would never happen, natalio Wheatley would have been a prime minister with all the powers to sweep this under the rug while the governor would be come governor general or just a symbolic creature to remind us that Britain is our master, even the judiciary can be swayed by a prime minister as you see going on in the independent territories, if the court sentence someone to jail the prime ministers just instruct the governor general to write a pardon, and the royal family loves when you use their name for refuge so they can maintain the elongation of colonialism.

This is showing to me that there is something wrong with your recruitment process. This is what this is. You are rooting out people who should not have been officers in the first place.

    • Topes says:

Majority of these people were interdicted over four years ago. They’ve not receive disciplinary trials. That’s a question that should be asked. Some have gone to HC already the outcome awaits courts response to dpp appeal. It would be great that they tell the whole truth.

  9. Resident says:

Get UK recruits out for 6 month tours. This will avoid the corruption and favoritism.
we need Police officers that have no connections and are willing to go out and patrol, not sit in the A/C at the station.

  10. Questions says:

Are we a captured state yet?
Or are we still working on that?
I mean, UK is traditionally the one that pulls the strings but it’s in chaos and can’t control itself, let alone us.
Isn’t it time we go independent and hand our country over the cartels 100%?

Where will these latest fouls be housed. There is zero room at our Prison.
When will the need for an additional prisons be formerly addressed with the people.
    This is urgent!!!
Granted, there are family and friends with Hotels and acomadations that are willing, even ecstatic to have their acomodations be utilized and paid for with Gov funds but for how long is this to continue.
My suggestion is to fwd the surplus
Lawbreakers to the confines of HMS Prison acomadations in the UK.

  17. 12 potential law suits says:

Other than the one recently named officer, 11 of those have been over four/five years or have gone before the courts found not guilty and awaiting one last rodeo before they level the Government’s purse with defamation, wrongful arrest and other law suits. It’s one thing to jump on the force when the arrest is made but the song quickly changes when it’s time to repay those officers for their destroyed lives and professional careers. Waiting with bated breath. COP Vanterpool it’s nice sing about corruption becuase your deeds have not been exposed.
