13 junior Customs officers undergo basic training
Thirteen junior Customs officers are completing a three-week basic training course designed to enhance their ability to perform their duties effectively.
According to a media release from the Deputy Governor’s Office on Wednesday, March 4, the training is being conducted by the Caribbean Customs Law Enforcement Council (CCLEC) in collaboration with the Virgin Islands Public Service Learning Institute (VIPSLI). The course covers key areas such as communication, legislation, conflict resolution, prohibitions and restrictions, ethics and integrity, and invoicing.
“His Majesty’s Customs Department’s relationship with the Caribbean Customs Law Enforcement Council allows for strategic collaboration on the training of public officers, further advancing their skills and aligning with international standards,” the statement noted.
The Deputy Governor emphasized that the training reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring public officers across all sectors receive adequate professional development. He also underscored the vital role Customs officers play in securing the territory’s borders and financial interests.
Acting Commissioner of Customs Greg Romney described the training as a foundational step that will strengthen officers’ understanding of essential functions.
“Our junior officers embarking on this critical training demonstrate our commitment to building a Customs Department that meets vital regional and international standards for effective border management. Upon completion of this course, these officers will be better equipped to serve as law enforcement officers,” Romney stated.
VIPSLI, established under the Public Service Management Act, is dedicated to training and developing public officers to ensure they possess the skills necessary for effective service.
