23-year-old man charged with assaulting girlfriend
BVI News understands that a 23-year-old East End resident has been arrested and charged in connection with a domestic assault that left his girlfriend nursing facial injuries.
The incident, which occurred last Saturday, has once again drawn attention to the rising reports of domestic violence across the territory.
According to information reaching our newsroom, the man allegedly struck his 22-year-old girlfriend several times after she refused to provide him with information he requested. He is also accused of throwing blocks of ice at her, causing a visible wound. Police reportedly found the woman with a blood-stained paper towel pressed to her head when they arrived at the scene.
It is unclear whether she received medical treatment.
Sources say the accused admitted his actions, telling police he acted out of frustration after questioning his girlfriend about her whereabouts the previous night. He was subsequently arrested and charged, then granted bail. He is expected to appear before the court at a later date.
The incident comes amid heightened concern over domestic violence in the Virgin Islands. Advocates have continued to call for stronger education, prevention, and support systems for victims, noting that many cases still go unreported.
