24-y-o man to pay over $10K for crashing into Lexus
A 24-year-old Hope Hill resident has to pay more than $10,000 in compensation and fines for traffic-related offences he committed last year.
Senior Magistrate Tamia Richards ordered Vidal Dickson, a mechanic, to compensate Lisa Hodge $ 9,618.40 after his reckless driving caused her to incur expenses to repair her Lexus.
The traffic offender’s actions also caused the woman to utilize a rented vehicle for weeks.
Dickson and Hodge’s vehicles were involved in a head-on collision on the Long Trench public road on November 4, 2017.
Dickson was found to be at fault.
Fines
In addition to the compensation order, Dickson was fined a total of $1,390 for other traffic violations which happened on the same day.
A breakdown of the sentence shows Dickson being fined $240 for driving without front and back identification plates. He will spend eight days at Her Majesty’s Prison if that sum is not paid.
For the offence driving an uninsured vehicle, he was fined $900 and, if he fails to pay, he would serve two months at the adult penitentiary.
Dickson was also fined $250 for the offence of driving without due care and attention. He will spend another eight days in prison if he does not pay that sum.

This is an interesting precedent to set.
If he was driving an insured vehicle it would have been different. I totally agree with the Magistrate. Others will learn.
