The BVI Tourist Board has announced that the 70th Virgin Islands Emancipation Festival Village will be named in honour Jost Van Dyke native, Larina Loretta Jacobs-Lamothe, affectionately known as “Rena”.

Clive McCoy, Director of Tourism, stated that Jacobs-Lamothe is an icon in the festival village, known for her service of mouthwatering local dishes and her seasoned hospitality expertise.

“Her versatility and dedication to Virgin Islands hospitality make her quite worthy of this prestigious recognition,” he announced.

The 70th Emancipation Festival features numerous events from July 14 to August 10. The main village festival will take place on August 5 at the Road Town Festival Grounds.

The headliners for the event, announced at the BVI Music Festival, include Dexta Daps and Machel Montano for International Reggae Night and International Soca Night, respectively, on August 2 and 3. The festival will also feature a Cultural Food Fair.

This year’s theme is encapsulated in the slogan, “Celebrate our Freedom and Live in Unity as BVI Festival Turns 70!”

This year marks not only the 70th BVI Emancipation Festival but also the 190th anniversary of the abolition of slavery in the Virgin Islands.
