77 active! Significant rise in COVID cases in last several days
The British Virgin Islands has seen a significant increase in active cases of COVID-19 in the last several days.
This is according to Health Minister Carvin Malone who said the total number of active cases is now up to 77 persons.
“The current spread of cases is three on Anegada, 68 on Tortola, and six on Virgin Gorda. Twenty-seven cases were diagnosed on travel screening, 33 local cases, and 15 contact cases,” the Minister said in his address to the House of Assembly today.
Malone also publicly addressed the latest COVID-19 related death reported on December 10.
He said that while the death, which is the 39th such fatality since the start of the pandemic, occurred in a person who was COVID-19 positive, it is yet to be determined the specific role COVID-19 played. That assessment is still ongoing he stated.
Christmas and COVID
The Health Minister also said he is aware that the upcoming festive season and the returning of the cruise ships meant a number of COVID-19 related restrictions have been relaxed and a number of tourism-related activities continue in the territory.
“The government has clearly recognised the need to balance lives and livelihood. As the territory and the world continue in the second year of the COVID pandemic, 21 months to be specific, it is imperative that we find ways to live and function with COVID-19,” the minister added.
Malone said, if all goes well, the territory is expected to receive additional doses of the AstraZeneca and Pfizer vaccine on Wednesday, December, 15.
He said the Pfizer doses will also be available for those who require a booster shot.
Malone said his ministry will prioritise the elderly (residents 65-years and older), those who are immunocompromised, children between the ages of 12-18, and frontline workers for the Pfizer vaccine.

Are they addressing the worrying number of false positives?
Why hide the vaccination status of the individual that succumbed to the covid. May her soul rest in peace
Unvaccinated
Go and dr**g yourself Health minister, to damm l**.
What is the delay in getting the booster shots, where and when will they be made available to the public.
And for 2 to 12 year olds??
If you think people here will queue up to inject their 2-year-olds with this, you’re insane.
Does this figure include all the false positives from the JVD clinic last weekend that caused a lot of tourists to miss their flights home?
Give the druggies their boosters please health man they’re in a worst position than the unvaxxed !!
When can 5 to 12 year old get vaccinated in the BVI?
“He said that while the death, which is the 39th such fatality since the start of the pandemic, occurred in a person who was COVID-19 positive, it is yet to be determined the specific role COVID-19 played”
If it is yet to be determined the role COVID19 played why is the person listed as a casualty of COVID. No wonder so many distrust the system.
not able to understand the plain English tongue..
That’s because it’s all about the money. Do you know how much millions of dollars have been promised to countries all over the world when they reach a certain amount of covid deaths? And vaccination rates? The world bank has pledged millions towards this cause.
Everything under the sun is being labeled as covid deaths. If you die of natural causes, cancer, heart attack, car accident, it doesn’t matter. It will be listed as a covid death. The politicians are all in on it. They stand to make millions off this plandemic.
should i say lobster fest results?
I had a dog and his name was bingo…
This is as expected.
Recovery should be high due to the increase in vaccinated persons.
@Fairy.
Fairy tales again.
Recovery was always high. Like 98% .
Yet to be determined the specific role COVID-19 played? What did he die of then? something else? Being unvaccinated? They can’t hide the truth from us.
For the number of cases – I have seen lots of tourists form the cruise ships walking round without masks. Are the tourist exempt from wearing masks? Is it any coincidence that the cases have risen since the cruise ships have come back?
Nobody in the BVI is required to wear a mask to “walk around.” Covid doesn’t spread outdoors; we’ve known this for 2 years. If you’re this scared of someone walking by you in the street, get help.
The Virus is implemented through testing.
Like Russian roulette.
Example for every 1000 test base on the population a certain amount will test positive and that’s how they keep the fear of Covid.
