Accused killers were with Snoopy before he went missing, court told
Prosecutors are alleging that CCTV footage captured murder victim Devern ‘Snoopy Stanley in the company of two of his alleged killers the night he went missing in June 2016.
These allegations of CCTV evidence, as well as cell phone records, were the two key things law enforcers used to link three men to Stanley’s murder.
Charged for Stanley’s murder are 30-year-old prison inmate Kareem
The trio was not required to plead when they appeared before Magistrate Ayanna Baptiste -DaBreo last Friday.
Allegations
Prosecutors allege that about 4 am on June 5, 2016, CCTV footage showed Stanley leaving Crystal’s Nightclub in Free Bottom and made his way to a dark area of the establishment’s parking lot.
At the time he was with Durrant and Cheltenham, the court heard. Shortly afterwards, he was allegedly ambushed by Farrell and a group of other men.
The court heard that a struggle ensued among the men and following the commotion, three vehicles located nearby sped off in the vicinity of Purcell Estate and in the general area where Stanley’s body was later found.
Prosecutors said surveillance footage indicated that Stanley did not return to the club nor did he leave the area on foot.
“That was the last time he was seen alive,” the court was told. It further heard that Stanley must have been in one of the vehicles that fled the scene.
Cellphone link
Meanwhile, the Crown alleged that phone records proved that the trio was in the area where murder victim’s body was found.
The court heard that after the three vehicles fled the scene, they were separated for some time.
The court was told that during that reported separation, Cheltenham called the other two accused men. Prosecutors said that call led investigators to pin the accused men’s phones to the vicinity of Rogue’s Bay where the body was discovered.
Conflicting police interviews
The trio were all interviewed by police, and while they all accepted that they were at the nightclub on the day in question, they all reportedly gave conflicting reports on the events that followed.
Farrell was first arrested for Snoopy’s murder back in November 2017 and placed on remand.
His co-accused were arrested on March 7 this year.
Reynela Rawlins represents Cheltenham, Stephen Daniels represents Farrell and Durrant is unrepresented.
No bail applications
Magistrate DaBreo said the issue of bail is not a matter for the Magistrate’s Court to deal with but the high court. As
The matter is adjourned to April 8.
Snoopy’s remains were found with his hands tied behind his back, and he had two large fractures to his jaw and a fractured rib. The cause of death was blunt force trauma to the head, the court heard.
