Accused murderer, two other inmates still at large

Murder accused Santo Hernandez (left), Kareem Hodge (top right), and Jose Almestica.

A man charged with murder is still on the loose after escaping from Her Majesty’s Prison following Hurricane Irma.

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) said the escapee is Dominican Republic native, Santo Hernandez.

He is accused of murdering Alston Penn, whose lifeless body was found in a pool of blood on the Wendy Hill road in March this year.

Police, in the meantime, said Hernandez is among two other inmates still at large. The other escapees yet to be recaptured are Jose Almestica of the neighbouring USVI, and United States native Kareem Hodge.

“Anyone knowing the whereabouts of Almestica, Hodge, or Hernandez is asked to call the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force through its emergency numbers at 344-1818, 344-1822, 344-1977, 545-4866, 468-9001 or 468-9000,” police said in a media release late this afternoon.

Nearly 150 prisoners had escaped from the local penitentiary after Hurricane Irma on September 6.

All except for the three aforementioned inmates were recaptured during a joint operation between the RVIPF and security forces from other jurisdictions.
