The National Bank of the Virgin Islands (“the Bank”) is seeking a qualified person to fill the following full-time position:

 

Application Software Developer

 

Job Summary:

  • To enhance the Bank’s overall efficiency through innovative and secure software development.
  • To design, develop, and maintain robust MS SQL database systems.
  • To build and test high-performing Java/Java EE applications
  • To manage the Bank’s Linux and OpenShift environments, ensuring that all software systems and databases operate effectively and securely.

Educational Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).

 Training/Skill Requirements:

  • Proven experience in SQL programming, with a preferred emphasis on MS SQL Server.
  • Proven working experience in Java development.
  • Expertise in developing and optimizing stored procedures, triggers, and complex queries.
  • Skills in Linux system administration and scripting (e.g., Bash, Python).
  • Familiarity with container orchestration principles and experience with OpenShift is a plus.
  • Familiarity working with .Net Framework, JavaScript and HTML
  • Experience working in the banking or financial services industry is desirable.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to understand front-end user requirements and a problem-solving attitude.
  • Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Detail-oriented with the capacity to work in a fast-paced, team-driven environment.
  • Ability to work within deadlines and within constraints.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and committed to continuous learning and improvement..
  • Aware of and compliant with the legal and ethical standards established by the Virgin Islands.

 Experience: 

  • Minimum of 5 years’ hands-on experience working within Linux environments

Primary Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Designs, develops, and optimizes complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and triggers using MS SQL.
  • Writes well-designed, testable, and efficient code.
  • Modifies databases according to requests and perform thorough testing.
  • Optimizes and maintains legacy systems.
  • Diagnoses and resolves database usage issues and malfunctions.
  • Manages and maintains Linux-based environments that support database operations.
  • Applies knowledge of container orchestration with exposure to OpenShift.
  • Collaborates with teams to integrate containerized database solutions into existing workflows.
  • Assists in deploying, scaling, and managing applications within an OpenShift environment as needed.
  • Develops and maintains comprehensive documentation for database architectures, procedures, and system configurations.
  • Helps develop technical and training manuals.
  • Provides data management support to users.
  • Collaborates with the Help Desk and supports the Close of Business functions.
  • Contributes to strategic planning and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Investigates and recommends alternative technologies to support continuous improvement.
  • Ensures that all systems adhere to the security and compliance standards expected in the banking industry.
