Airports Authority to host simulation exercises

The BVI Airports Authority (BVIAA) has announced that it will be hosting its biennial emergency simulation exercises at the Terrance B Lettsome International Airport (Beef Island), the Auguste George International Airport (Anegada), and the Virgin Gorda International Airport (Virgin Gorda).

The exercises are expected to commence today, October 16 and continue until Friday, November 17.

The Authority said the public should experience a noticeable increase in activity by the emergency services around the airport during the exercises and explained that announcements will be made on the day of the simulation to ensure that there is no alarm.

According to the BVIAA, the simulation exercises are in accordance with OTAR Part 178 and OTAR Part 139. They must be performed to test the relevant operational procedures, along with testing the response time and performance of emergency personnel within the Authority and external agencies.

The exercises will all be conducted during the operational hours of the respective airports, the BVIAA said.

In the meantime, the Authority said it continues to maintain compliance with the regulatory requirements of the Overseas Territories Aviation Requirements (OTAR), and will continue to maintain industry standards that provide a safe and efficient gateway to the Virgin Islands and the rest of the world.

  1. Stop the shut downs says:

Fine but no more unannounced airport closures on Beef island. Visitors who buy a non stop flight to Beef and then land in San Juan never come to the BVI again.

  2. Is there a plan? says:

A drill to see how long it takes to respond to an emergency from Road Town? People are reporting no response from EE police station. Are there EMTs stationed at the airport? If something happens at rush hour will the delay caused by traffic gridlock be factored in? This is stuff you can figure on paper unless you have already got a plan developed for that.

  3. Sindee please take note says:

No need to falsely report deaths when these simulations happen!

  4. Gc says:

off topic…Anybody experience being pulled everytime they leave beef island airport. It happened to me the last six or so times I come to the Bvi.I don’t have any record..no over staying nothing yet always get pull for luggage inspection..I literally expect it now.
