Another woman assaulted in John’s Hole burglary

As the spate of home invasions continues across the territory, the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) has confirmed that a second woman was assaulted by gunmen who broke into a home in John’s Hole, Tortola.

The incident happened on Saturday night June 15 and it comes a week after a similar burglary in the Slaney Hill area where gunmen attempted to rape the victim.

The police say initial reports in the John’s Hole incident indicate that two masked individuals, armed with guns, entered the home and accosted the occupants. They assaulted a female member of the household and then quickly fled after other occupants were alerted to their presence.

The nature of the assault is unclear and our news centre has not been able to confirm whether the perpetrators stole any valuables. However, the police say the investigation is ongoing and the victims are receiving relevant support and assistance.

“This incident followed another similar home invasion, which occurred at Slaney Hill on June 5, 2024, in which a female was also assaulted. The RVIPF is prioritising the investigation of both matters because both are indicative of a sinister trajectory in the behaviour of criminals, which has seemingly become more debased,” a statement from the police said.

Commissioner of Police, Mark Collins is also appealing to the public who may have information about these and other crimes to provide this information to the police. “This disturbing turn of events in the local crime patterns has understandably caused an elevated level of concern among all well-thinking and law-abiding residents, but this new crime trend should also spur society toward action,” he stated.

Persons can confidentially call the Crime Stoppers line at 800-8477 (TIPS) or overseas call 1-284-800-8477 with the relevant information or contact the RVIPF Intelligence Unit at 284-368-9339.

The police say they’d appreciate any information, no matter how seemingly insufficient, as it could be important to solving these crimes.

And yet, law abiding citizens cannot own a firearm to keep in their own home – never mind get a carry permit. It’s just so much insanity, the reflexive “we don’t want our country flooded with guns” mantra whenever it’s proposed that LAW ABIDING CITIZENS should be able to legally own them. I have news for you – the Territory is ALREADY “flooded with guns,” and they are owned by criminals who laugh at the so-called “strict gun laws.”

  5. Reasonable Man says:

In a small place like this it seems it should be easy to pick out the individuals behind these crimes but it is not. The reason why? The willingness of family and neighbours to protect these people even when they are making a complete mess of the place we call home.

If you want to follow the path of Haiti, Guatemala, Ecuador and don’t mind living in a place where it isn’t safe to go out after dark, or any other time just keep on doing that.

These criminals are ruining people’s lives and in time will destroy the economy as well. If you honestly care about your family, friends, neighbours and this country call the TIPS line which is confidential and untraceable.

@Reasonable Man – excellent comment. These fools do not realise that it is the country and it’s tourism economy that will suffer. Tourists and residents alike will be afraid to walk the streets for fear of robbery. The whole economy including restaurants etc. will be destroyed bit by bit. Please Police Officers, patrol the streets at night, drive around in your cars and keep a presence. People know who they are, friends, family, neighbours etc. Say something, call the TIPS line, do not be afraid. Whatever little information you can give can save another person’s life, who knows, may be your own family.

  6. The Commissioner says:

Why isn’t the Police Comissioner and Governor being called to account. They are directly repsonsible for the safety and security of the residents and citizens of this territory.

If we are trying to hold our local politicians accountable then let us do the same for the UK appointed civil servants?

And yes we need the community to also take a stand against crime!

    Stop.

“This disturbing turn of events in the local crime patterns has understandably caused an elevated level of concern among all well-thinking and law-abiding residents”

Locals are not responsible for security & we are not allowed to secure ourselves other than a fence, alarms, cameras and pet dogs.

We have kept watch & continue to do so but are removed from the process & of late “people dont trust the police.” No surprise when officers are before the court & what happened to andrew fahie.

All we can do is call for common sense. There are only so many roads, there is drone technology, satellite technology on and on. We can only cry out & pray the cops implement them.

Yet the secret secret style of policing is destroying community trust on another level.

Put the deterrents in full view. Put the officers on the streets in their full uniform. Common sense.

Saturating the visibility with police appears to not be the answer. The places in the Caribbean where there are uniformed police pasteredlikr landscapers the worse and has always been the most violent…children born and nurtured in an environment where they are noted as cannibals abd they adhere to the expectations. Remove / dilut the presence of thus group from the immigrant population…there is no need from th Dr m that cannot ve delved elswehere.zThir energy spirit culture is depravity in every form that encompass violence against their people. It has not changed in over 100 years in their counties and they take it and practice the destruction every where they plant themselves.Remove the cause if there is to be a different outcome. No room in prison,in private guest houses.education compromised.including physical safety in the schools. and then our tax dollars used as reward for music fest and paying their artists who are the majority on stage while our potholes get bigger our elderly suffer for needs including houskng.
