Are public servants too comfortable in their jobs?

A legislator has proposed that the Premier should demand more from his administration, claiming they might be too settled in their current positions.

At the time, D3 Representative Julian Fraser was making the case that Premier Dr Natalio Wheatley should take a loan from the Social Security fund to finance the airport runway expansion project.

Fraser asserted that the economy was vibrant and that there would be ample time to repay the borrowed funds. However, he suggested that the loan repayment challenge should not be up to the Premier alone.

“You got smart people in the administration. Let them go home at night and can’t sleep. They’re too comfortable. If they know that you had a $450 million loan to pay off, they wouldn’t be,” said Fraser.

Fraser questioned Premier Wheatley about delays in starting the West End ferry terminal project and insisted that the country needs to move along.

According to Fraser, failure to complete the projects would mean that the government returns to the polls with a string of excuses when the next election comes around.

“I’m telling the people today, a few days short of one year into your term, there’s no excuse that he could have if he doesn’t get that runway at the airport at Beef Island done,” Fraser said.

He told lawmakers there was once a minister entirely responsible for the airport runway extension and contended that the project should be shovel-ready by now.

This article has nothing to do with the headline. The headline makes it seem like they are talking about Public Servants working for the Government. While the piece itself is talking about putting the Premiers’ administration to work. If you want to write an article about Public Servant’s work ethic, do that. Stop sensationalizing your Headlines. It’s becoming a trend here.

Name one “public servant” who has ever been terminated for incompetence. Question answered….

    • @A Capitalist Who Loves the BVI says:

Around here you more likely to get terminated if you too competent. Competence does ask questions that bring attention to shady dealings.

  6. This a Question? says:

    YES!!!

  7. Rotate says:

all public servants to the other BOT’s during their 20-30 year careers. No sense locals working here anymore when they can work in the PS on other islands and those islanders from Bermuda, Cayman, Gibraltar, etc. can work here in the BVI for part of their 20-30 years in service to the public of the BOT’s!

They are complacent. 5, 10, 20 years in the job they now feel oh I’ve got the power. So treat people like crap. think they are gods in their positions. if the government acts quickly this nonsense will discontinue.
