Aspiring drug dealers live among us

Deputy Governor David Archer, Jr.

Deputy Governor David Archer Jr has issued a stronger call for the community to speak out against crime and violence, saying that residents are aware of aspiring criminals and interact with them in their day-to-day lives.

“There are young men and young women who are aspiring to be the next great drug dealer. But they live in our homes, they go to our churches, they’re on the blocks of our communities and we know who they are,” Archer posited.

He urged the BVI to go back to the days when crime and violence were frowned upon and where persons were held accountable for wrongdoing.

“As a Virgin Islander being part of the fabric of society where crime was not cool, where it was limited to persons who found themselves on the bad side of society, that’s not the case any longer. Unfortunately, crime appears to be cool in certain aspects – in particular the drug trade,” Archer stated.

He also warned persons not to accept any form of wrongdoing as the whole community will eventually feel the impacts of crime and violence. He said residents should be ready to speak against crime and violence even before the police get involved in these matters.

“You’ve heard people say, ‘These are just drug dealers shooting each other’. Until one stray bullet impacts your child. The time is now to recognize that this is at our doorstep,” Archer said.

The Deputy Governor is the latest public figure who has been calling on the community to support law enforcers in the fight against crime, joining the Police Commissioner and other elected leaders who have turned the spotlight on residents who are believed to be holders of valuable information that can lead to the arrest of perpetrators.

As the culture of silence persists within the community, residents have posited that the police would be able to solve crimes if they attempted to look in the right places and put more effort into doing their jobs.

So do political, elected none elected criminals.

So to are white collars criminals in every aspect of goverment, from top to bottom.

So, if it can be seen that there are drug dealers in the making, what is being done to divert them going in that direction?

Absolutely nothing. We have jails awaiting them, not jobs intervention.. Not educational intervention nor any other youth and or family unit developmant initiatives..

Just sit in an office, create some news paper topics, send them into circulation sit back, collect big salary and and watch other do whatever they need to do to make their next trip to the toilet..
