Attempted VG shooter confesses in court

Brandon Riley being escorted from court on September 3.

Brandon Riley, the man accused of attempting to shoot another man but his gun jammed has confessed to the crime.

The 27-year-old United States citizen and resident of Virgin Gorda had initially pleaded not guilty but changed his plea to guilty when he appeared before Magistrate Giselle Jackman-Lumy last week.

He pleaded guilty to the unlawful use of a firearm, possession of an offensive weapon, using threatening language, using insulting language, and three counts of common assault.

What happened

The first set of reported incidents took place on July 6 in the Valley, Virgin Gorda, the court heard.

It is reported that Riley saw the complainant at a bar and pulled the chair that he was sitting on from underneath him.

Several days later on July 28, Riley kneed the same man in the leg twice while they were in a barbershop.

On August 6 at the White House Bar, Riley reportedly confronted the complainant and said: “You want to go to the police but I’m going to shoot you tonight.”

Riley also called him a ‘punk’ and a ‘p****y’, the court was told.

He reportedly pulled what is believed to be a ‘real gun’ and pointed the weapon at the complainant. He then cranked the gun twice and pulled the trigger, however, no bullets came out.

The matter was later reported to police and Riley was arrested and charged on August 31.

The gun is still at large, the court heard.

He is currently on remand and is scheduled to return to court on November 28 for sentencing.

Attorney Patrick Thompson is representing the confessed offender.
