Big plans for after-school programmes this year
Minister of Education and Youth Affairs, Dr Natalio Wheatley said people can look forward to more positive actions as it relates to after-school programmes for students in the territory this year.
Speaking at a recent press conference, Dr Wheatley said he did not want to pre-empt discussions that are ongoing in the House of Assembly, but that he was very excited about the plans that are being discussed.
“I am excited that we are going to open up a new revenue stream that is going to allow for us to better support people doing after-school programmes. If it does come through, we are going to be looking at after-school programmes around the entire territory,” the Minister of Education and Youth Affairs said.
“We will be better able to provide assistance to persons in sports, in culture and even our churches. It is something I am looking forward to this year,” Dr Wheatley continued.
The youth affairs minister said persons can look forward to positive things happening in this regard, but persons should not think that nothing has been happening to support after-school programmes.
Dr Wheatley noted there has been a lot of assistance being provided to persons through grants offered by the ministry, but the grants are limited and for that reason, he is excited about the new revenue stream that will open up and better assist with after-school programmes for the territory’s youths.
Meanwhile, in January 2020, Premier and First District Representative Andrew Fahie had urged other district representatives in the territory to emulate him and implement after-school programmes for youngsters in their respective constituencies.
Fahie made the call while stating that the Bambelela After-school Programme in his district has positively impacted the students of his community. His Homework Study Programme officially started in 2014.

Election year, so we will be getting all sort of things. Tired of these inept leaders.
Yes we gonna reserve a teaching job for you after elections
Too much plan and no action makes Jack a dull boy and Jill too
Jumping all over making announcements and nothing happening. This man is a big joke. If a walkie talkie was a person. Where is Jost van Dyke School? Where is Eslyn Henley School? Where is Isabella Morris School? The only schools you all complete is what the NDP started. Nothing new to show after three years in government. Where are the fishing complexes that you promised? What happen to your big marijuana plans that you were talking about before you check with the UK government about their thoughts on this. Where is agriculture? where is the market that you board up and drive away the vendors from? Where is the library? After three years? Nothing! And look at your district. You could hide from the police in the pot holes up Long Look.
Don’t forget the national museum that was promised.
dont forget the fishing complex…where is it?’
After school???? I think he needs to have a proper plan for IN SCHOOL as opposed to After school
You could write the script with election coming. This guy such a disappointment. Expected better but he gets an F grade.
need them all now kids them way behind
Amazing, govt just passed a new budget just over 2 months ago, and there was no mention of these plans. But! I twll you what, we have big plans for you soon. And it is not going to cost us a dime, beyond the salary you getting now.

Plans are not actions. Just promises that mat=y of may not happen. The priority should be to fix schools, and staff them with competent teachers.
Natalio Wheatley, is a complete waste of time he needs to stop talking but that’s hard to when election is around the Conner, all the minsters has big plans for the BVI in the last few months of there exit, cant blame them they are holding on to there sinking ship which can go down as early as April. Wheatley save your self more embarrassment find a Conner and just wait until its over.
Grants!!! So another 500,000.00 for consultancy fees for nothing? They just using their last minutes to milk as much money as possible out of the treasury.
