Bike found! Fireman’s burial halted as suspicion of foul play arises

File photo of a fire services officer riding a motor cycle.

Information reaching our news centre is that the discovery of deceased fireman Shaqhoi Smith’s motorcycle has led to an increased suspicion surrounding his death and ultimately a stoppage of his burial to conduct an autopsy.

Smith was involved in a scooter accident on April 18 and succumbed to his injuries at the Dr D Orlando Smith Hospital on April 22.

Smith’s motorcycle was not found at the scene when police arrived on the scene. However, the motorcycle was recently found intact.

A scheduled viewing and funeral service was held on May 21, 2022, but when it was time for the burial, the body was returned to the funeral home after the service and not to the burial ground.

A source close to the family said the family had always suspected there was some foul play involved in the fire officer’s untimely demise. It is our understanding that the recent discovery of Smith’s intact motorcycle confirmed the family’s fears of suspected wrongdoing.

This led to a request for an autopsy and stalling the burial of the fire officer to determine the exact cause of death and rule out the possibility of foul play.

Our news centre reached out to the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force for comment but no answer was received up to publication time.

BVI News will provide updates as they become available.

  1. You mean to tell me says:

This guy was found of on road as he did and died due to such and these people at the funeral/police did check to do an autopsy on the body

This should of been the number 1 reason for an autopsy. Sad that they had to wait so long for such

This article is mind boggling. So just how did they know it was a scooter accident if the scooter was not found on the scene. If the scooter was found weeks later why was it deemed unnecessary for an autopsy in the first place. Again why was it called a scooter accident when the scooter wasn’t on the scene and now that the scooter was found “intact”

FACTS. Can we please look over my home boy, Big Stash in vg Death too? His scooter was not at the site either and when they did find it, his scooter was in tact. RVIPF please open back that case also.

You sure are despicable human being to even think such a thing. You looking to instigate utter rubbish talk. Do you know anything about that coworker?? I know him and it’s sad you would even conjure up such reckless, thoughtless and wicked thoughts about a good Samaritan. I guess many will think twice before they render assistance in such circumstances thanks to people such as you.

Some people only wear the costume of a good Samaritan. In fact, quite often the most “good” people are the most guilty. There are clubs full of them; people lining up to do “good” works to make up for the wicked things they do in private.

  10. Why says:

Why is riding without any sort of safety equipment the norm in this territory?? Men, women, school children, little children in the laps of adults, government employees, etc. Nobody wears helmets, etc. And it is completely allowed by law enforcement. I find this completely bizarre.

I filled in a survey on VINO and when I saw the results it noted that people consider the police the most corrupt govt or statutory body in the VI. I selected police too. They are a joke.

    WHERE was the scooter “found”?

  13. Hold up!! says:

So if it was a bike accident how is the bike intact annnddd after not seeing the bike on the scene how did they come to the conclusion that it was a bike accident in the first place smdh

  14. my Gosh says:

If no Scooter was on scene how was it deemed a Scooter Accident? With no vehicle or sccoter present, why wasn’t his death treated as suspicious from get go? Scooter was not found at scene but found days later. Where was it found and Who found it? Who did the repairs? The truth will come out sooner or later. Tongue and teeth does fall out.

  15. Forensic files says:

Now I do not recall if a photo was shown on the media.

However let sum up what I think happened.

The killer whomever he/they are arranged for a meet up that night or night before with the victim.

The victim not knowing he just made an arrangement with that seal his fate. Was maybe under the assumption he is going to either chill with a friend or about to resolve a problem.

Whereby the victim maybe was tortured and questioned by these ma

  16. Pure Incompetence says:

This is the type of laziness and shitty work the police be doing and have the heart to be asking for increment. This should have been looked into a long time ago, they have seen enough bike accident scenes to have known if this was an accident or not. The hospital has seen enough bike accident victims to know if the injuries were caused by a bike accident or not. No one doing there job.
