BioSafe inks contract for Long Look pump station

Kye Rymer

The government awarded a contract of $511,786.97 yesterday, June 27 to BioSafe Treatment & Septic Solutions as part of the ongoing East End/Long Look (EE/LL) sewerage project.

The contract was for the construction of inspection chamber wet wells and the procurement and installation of pumps and mechanical components for the Long Swamp Pump Station.

Public Works Minister Kye Rymer said that once constructed and commissioned, the Long Swamp pump station will serve as a central system for the collection of effluent to then be pumped into the Paraquita Bay waste treatment plant for tertiary treatment.

Addressing what he described as significant delays during the tender process for the pump station, Minister Rymer said much work has been going on behind the scenes for officials to get to the signing ceremony held yesterday. The tender process for the pump station started in July 2022.

“Several challenges arose during the initial procurement process where the initial set of bids were deemed non-responsive, which resulted in the re-issuance of the tender document for re-tendering of the project,” Rymer said.

Works can now move forward

The Works Minister indicated that works can now move forward expeditiously to engage BioSafe to get this critical leg of the project completed.

“I once again want to assure the public that a lot of work has been done and is being done. You will soon see actual works on the ground as we kick off the major work for this critical project,” Rymer promised.

Officials are expected to sign another major contract for the repair of the Paraquita Bay Waste Water Treatment Plant and the construction of a sludge treatment facility in short order, Rymer disclosed.

He further noted that his office anticipates that the tender for the Parham Town to Long Swamp gravity and pumping lines and manhole installation will be out for tender in a few weeks. This is in addition to the signing of another contract for the procurement of manholes and wet wells, which is expected to be done in July.

“Based on all project projections and barring any unforeseen issues, we expect that the commissioning of the East End/Long Look Sewerage Network will take place in 2024,” Rymer expressed.
