Blanket of Saharan dust affects BVI! Illness, visibility concerns raised

All persons with respiratory illnesses in the British Virgin Islands should be on alert as a plume of dust from the Sahara Desert in Africa impacts the territory this week.

This advisory was issued by the Department of Disaster Management (DDM) who said in their latest weather update that the dust can aggravate persons with that category of illnesses.

Small craft operators are also being advised to exercise caution.

The DDM said a dry and dusty environment associated with the Saharan dust will cause hazy conditions with reduced visibility and minimal shower activity to prevail over the territory during the next two days.

“Saharan Dust travels across the Atlantic Ocean to different parts of the world. For the past few days, the skies over the BVI have been very hazy because the dust levels have become hazardous,” the DDM stated.

“This means visibility is impacted and those who suffer from respiratory illnesses should be on high alert and dust accumulation both indoors and outdoors can be expected … Small craft operators should exercise caution against choppy seas and reduced visibility,” the DDM added.

The layer of Saharan dust — which has been described as abnormal for the BVI — is forecast to make a trek of more than 5,000 miles across the Atlantic Ocean to the United States by the end of the week.

Right? I’m so tired of their whining about everything as though the whole world isn’t going thru trials right now…no, it is just the self-centered people that make up the population of the BVI that are experiencing loss of business, loss of jobs, loss of freedom. Whine, whine, whine.

OMG… lock us up. Mandatory quarantine and start curfews again. Dust can only cause problems at night between 6pm and 6am. coughing from the dust can only be construed as Corona anyway.
