Boat captain arrested for drugs found aboard vessel

File photo.

The captain of a vessel recently docked at the Road Town Ferry Terminal has been arrested after authorities reportedly discovered drugs aboard the vessel earlier this week.

BVI News understands that nearly 500 grams of cannabis were seized during the operation.

According to highly placed sources, the captain was aboard the vessel alongside a person previously accused of illegally possessing a firearm. The discovery was made during a routine inspection of vessels at the ferry port conducted by Customs officers.

Sources told BVI News that the drugs were stashed inside an unspecified container aboard the vessel.

It remains unclear whether the boat captain has been formally charged in connection with the discovery.
