Boris Johnson resigns

Boris Johnson’s time as United Kingdom’s Prime Minister soon come to an now that members of his party turned against him over a series of scandals which forced him to vacate his position.

It took nearly 60 members of his government issuing their resignation over the past 48 hours for Johnson to abandon his attempts to remain Prime Minister of the UK.

Despite resigning, he insisted he would remain as PM and a caretaker leader until the Conservative Party attempts to choose a new leader and successor.

However, according to BBC News, this might be unsustainable as there are a limited number of people willing to work for him.

Party officials have already announced they will be releasing a timetable for a leadership election by Monday.

While giving his resignation speech in front of the famous 10 Downing Street – the official residence and office of the British Prime Minister – Johnson announced he acknowledged that it seems his Conservative Party has lost confidence in him.

“It is clearly now the will of the parliamentary Conservative Party that there should be a new leader of that party and therefore, a new prime minister…The process of choosing that new leader should begin now,” Johnson said.

In a sign that he is planning to stay in the office for as long as he can, Johnson announced he had appointed a new cabinet “to serve, as I will until a new leader is in place.”

Appointing new cabinet ministers means that the government can continue to function as he prepares to depart.

Johnson has in recent months been engulfed in a series that forced even his most stalwart supporters to abandon him. The latest was Downing Street’s botched handling of the resignation by Johnson’s former deputy chief whip, Chris Pincher, who was accused of groping two men last week.

Here locally, Territorial-At-Large Representative Carvin Malone has already warned the BVI people to take note of what is happening as a change in government and leadership within the UK might spell danger for the Virgin Islands.

I hope we don’t become bitter and hateful in the comment section like a certain yellow site. How quickly we forgot about our OWN corruption and former premier

I think if the people voted for him in such huge numbers he should not have left office unless they voted otherwise. It’s not up to the media to decide what the people want it’s the people who do that. His mistakes were petty compared with his achievements.

Our former premier needs to follow suit and resign from the HOA. Only in the BVI an elected member could be in a situation such as Fahie and continue to hold his seat.

Prays that there is not an election in the UK and Labour gains power. Labour is a bunch of socialists and can hardly wait to destroy the BVI financial services sector. The likes of M. Hodge will have fully sway.

Prime Ministers come and go in Parliament. Some stay on for a while like Maggie Thatcher while others pass through No. 10 Downing St. like a holiday maker. Eventually a sensible person will rise from the ranks of the majority to lead the UK and its far flung colonies around the globe.

Boris Johnson has no resigned as Prime Minister. How can this website post this lie?

  9. Lady Thatcher says:

Boris Johnson has resigned the Leadership of the Conservative Party; not his role as the UK Prime Minister.

He remains as PM and as a Member of Parliament until such time that the Conservative Party nominates a new Leader who would assume the role of Prime Minister–until the next General Election.
