Residents and visitors are being told to brace for strong winds that will generate pockets of moisture and a high chance of showers across the British Virgin Islands on Friday into the weekend.

These wind conditions will also result in hazardous seas, the Department of Disaster Management (DDM) has advised.

“Sea conditions will become challenging for mariners,” the DDM said.

The DDM further said the Antigua and Barbuda Meteorological Services has issued a warning for small craft operators as sea conditions continue to “deteriorate”.

“In addition to this, some moisture and instability associated with a trough along with additional moisture streaming into the region on the wind flow will also maintain a high chance of showers across the islands. Possible rainfall total for the forecast period is 6 mm to 19 mm or 0.25 to 0.75 inch,” the DDM said.
