BREAKING: Vanterpool to step down as Acting COP

Information reaching BVI News indicates that Acting Commissioner of Police Jacqueline Vanterpool will be reverted to her substantive post of Deputy Commissioner of Police within the Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF).

Sources indicate that Vanterpool — who has served as Acting Commissioner of the RVIPF since early 2024 — was reportedly briefed about the forthcoming change in her role.

Vanterpool disclosed that she previously applied for the substantive post of Commissioner and expects a fair outcome from the recruitment process.

Vanterpool, who has presided over a period of rising violent crime in recent months, was praised by Governor Daniel Pruce for her achievements in the role.

The demotion comes amid increased scrutiny over police ranks and in the wake of a recent prison escape of two “armed and dangerous” criminals.

The transition is expected to take effect later this month.

BVI News will provide updates as more information becomes available.

The real reason is we have two active terrorists among us that broke out of jail and still at large, on her watch. (Not to mention several daring shootings)

Whoever was in that position was going to catch hell for it.

@ soil boy no you made a mistake I think you meant to say escape under a UK prison chief which is the second time 2017 January under Mr Foot a cover up the whole in the fence and bar cut out in the remand wing cell that held the same Jose Almestic not Vanterpool that’s something to talk about this is not Jose first rodeo with leaving that prison. Pensé wants a white UK commissioner of police that he can pull strings. And so he’s going to get a UK controller of customs and a chief immigration officer.

  6. We need help says:

Of course the Police Service Commission — a body of Virgin Islanders — was always going to recommend one of their own for the job. In many ways, that is understandable, and perhaps even done for some of the right reasons.

But the truth is this: the country is in a state of urgent need. Violent crime is rising. Communities are scared. Families are suffering. Confidence in law enforcement is low. The situation has gone beyond what familiarity, loyalty, or tradition can solve.

We need professional help. We need proven, experienced, strategic leadership that has dealt with this level of organised, armed, high-risk criminality before. Leadership that can restructure, reform, train, and modernise the police service into an effective public safety agency fit for the challenges we face today.

This is not about pride. This is not about politics. This is about survival, safety, and the future of the Virgin Islands.

If we continue doing the same thing, we will continue getting the same results. It is time to be honest. It is time to be bold. It is time to bring in the expertise that can actually make a difference, before it’s too late!

    • @ We need help says:

You could have saved us all the trouble and just type that we need a UK Commissioner because under the previous UK Commissioners we had zero crime right? You people are really sick in the head! Two dangerous prisoners escaped from a facility managed by a qualified UK Head of Prisons. Not one word from anybody, just business as usual.

  7. Serious crime says:

We need leadership with real expertise in managing and reducing serious organised crime. Someone who understands gang dynamics, community tensions, and how criminal networks operate across borders. Someone who has a track record in taking illegal firearms off the streets and disrupting the drug trade at its source.

This is not a routine policing challenge. This is organised crime, armed crime, and deeply embedded gang culture. If we are serious about reclaiming our communities, restoring public confidence, and protecting our young people, we must bring in the level of skill, strategy, and experience that matches the scale of the problem.

If we continue treating this like ordinary crime, we will continue losing ground.

If we want a real chance, a fighting chance — we need leadership that has actually done this before, and done it successfully.

  10. OOOOO says:

The UK has the ultimate power here so he will do as his white imperialist neo-cons deemed in their interest.

Gross shades of colorist are but one issue hidden here.

Maintaining and controlling the highest law enforcement positions just for the entitles is the other.

Hence, until we become in charge of our own destiny, no matter how hard we work, no matter how much we try, we will never ascend higher than they allow.

This, despite the naysayers, is a vivid example why we need to take greater autonomous control of our affairs.
As, this is a gross wrong did to that lady, and a very public humiliation of her as well.

Virgin Islanders, we must remove ourselves from this antiquated neocolonialist form of governance.
