The BVI International Arbitration Centre (BVI IAC) has announced the appointment of a new Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

That new CEO is Shan Greer, who was serving as President of the BVI IAC Arbitration Committee prior to this latest appointment. Her replacement has not yet been announced.

A media release from the Arbitration Centre said Greer will be responsible for the overall growth, management and operations of the institution, as well as being the head of the Secretariat of the BVI IAC.

“In this dual capacity, she replaces previous CEO, François Lassalle, who served from the founding of the BVI IAC and Hana Doumal, who served as Registrar from January 2021,” the release stated.

Greer, in the meantime, has been described as having a distinguished career in private practice in the Caribbean, Europe, and North America as an arbitrator, adjudicator, dispute board member, mediator and “counsel on a wide range of complex and high-value transactional and commercial disputes in the construction, infrastructure, energy, banking and finance, hotel and property development, oil and gas, telecommunications, and water sectors”.

“Ms Greer is well known in the Caribbean as a strong advocate for the development of arbitration practices, policies and initiatives and for her involvement in the training of legal and arbitration professionals,” Arbitration Centre said.

The Centre also said that under the leadership of Greer, the BVI IAC used the next few months to launch new services and initiatives designed to “meet the demands of its key markets and firmly to establish the Centre’s place as the leading arbitration institution in the Caribbean”.

but please tell the public how many disputes are settled each month by the BVI IAC. This dispute resolving entity seems to exist in secret without any public audit of their financial profits or losses.

  2. Rubber Duck says:

The whole point of an arbitration centre is to resolve disputes in private rather than in a public courtroom.
