BVI experts promote financial services in Asia
Representatives of BVI’s financial services sector recently participated in the Asia Outbound Summit, where they showcased the jurisdiction as a premier hub in offshore finance and wealth management.
The Asia Outbound Summit is an annual event that brings together key stakeholders in offshore finance and wealth management in Asia. It serves as a platform for knowledge exchange, networking, and discussions on the latest trends and opportunities in the financial sector.
A significant portion of the BVI’s financial services business comes from the Asian continent, so the territory’s presence at the event was significant.
Vicky Lord, Managing Partner of Harneys (Shanghai), and Tiger Zhang, Director of ICS Funding (ICS Corporate Services), showcased their expertise, putting the BVI in the spotlight during the Asia Outbound Summit in Shanghai.
Both professionals’ participation underscored the BVI’s commitment to being a driving force in the offshore finance and wealth management sector.
Vicky Lord of Harneys (Shanghai) represented BVI Finance with a comprehensive Succession Planning Presentation. Lord’s presentation emphasised BVI’s distinct advantages and competitiveness in the field of succession planning. The session covered a range of topics, including BVI Wills, Joint Tenancy, BVI Trusts, M&As, and Directorship, providing detailed explanations on various aspects such as Grant of Probate, Intestacy, Forced Heirship, and Trust types.
ICS Funding director Zhang contributed to the summit’s APAC Offshore Fund Panel. The panel delved into the rapid development of the Asia Pacific region as a global investor hub, exploring new measures and regulatory initiatives by the OECD.
Tiger spotlighted the advantages of BVI funds, emphasising their flexible registration and lighter economic substance requirements compared to other jurisdictions.
The panel discussions, led by both BVI experts, provided invaluable insights into the dynamic landscape of offshore finance and wealth management, offering a nuanced understanding of global investment trends and regulatory initiatives.
BVI Finance CEO Elise Donovan stated, “BVI Finance is proud to have played a significant role in the Asia Outbound Summit, contributing expertise and insights that resonate with the global financial community. Our experts, Vicky Lord and Tiger Zhang, showcased BVI’s strengths and competitiveness, reinforcing our commitment to facilitating international business and finance.”
Despite some setbacks due to global sentiments and developments in areas that govern financial services, the BVI continues to promote its financial services sector as a safe, top tier jurisdiction for many products.
The industry is well supported by the government as it remains the number one economic earner, contributing nearly 70 per cent to the territory’s annual earnings

Well done by these professionals. What an excellent report. Not one minister of government was present yet something to gravitate towards. This should speak volumes. Let the folks with the expertise who can give a credible presentation do the traveling.
Time that the people of the bvi wake up. Sleeping too long. How long will it take you to recognize that this accident of a leader is way over his head. He has now assigned himself to a new ministry. Minister of travel. Every dog fight he wants to attend.
Cant we see that slow man failed woefully in every area that he is assigned. It is not that bvi don’t have credible and capable people. Yet we sit back and allow the traveling salesman to lead and comes back home having sold nothing.
Are we this dumb or blind. You claim you have so much yet you have so little. We are now expecting the private sector to travel on their own dime to bring business into the territory and then inept people take the credit. We have people who can lead. Let us form a unity government let us put the lady in our corner to lead.
Make sure that number 2, 4, 7, 8 or 9 don’t be included in any decision making capacity. For slowman don’t even deserve to be a minister. We need a female government. Led by Hon Smith with Sonia Webster as her deputy. Include the harrigan lady, police officer Vanderpool. I would allow the readers to add the others.
Enough is fuc…g enough.
