BVI Finance pushes business in Latin America
As UK authorities continue pressing for greater public access to clients in the financial services sector, the British Virgin Islands is doubling down on efforts to market its offerings — with a growing focus on Latin America, an emerging market for the territory.
Earlier this month, BVI Finance led a strong delegation to the 2025 STEP LatAm Conference in Mexico City, where it showcased the territory’s strengths and reassured partners that the Virgin Islands remains a trusted, stable, and innovative financial centre.
At a special event titled BVI Connect: Cultivating Global Partnerships, stakeholders highlighted why the territory continues to be a jurisdiction of choice for Latin American clients. Discussions centred on the BVI’s trusted legal system, its regulatory framework that balances transparency with confidentiality, and its ability to deliver consistent outcomes for investors and families seeking wealth-planning solutions.
Regulators also provided updates on issues at the forefront of the industry — including the Legitimate Access to Beneficial Ownership Register, which remains a point of contention as the UK pushes for public access. Officials reassured attendees that privacy and security will remain top priorities even as international standards evolve.
The renewed push into Latin America comes as the Virgin Islands continues lobbying the UK on the potential economic and privacy impacts of publicly accessible registers. The outreach also follows encouraging industry trends, with company incorporations rising nearly eight per cent in the first half of 2025 — a positive sign of global confidence in the jurisdiction despite international pressure.
