BVI has 95 active COVID-19 cases, four hospitalisations
Premier Andrew Fahie has pleaded for continued vigilance as active COVID-19 cases in the BVI surged to 95 persons in recent days.
A COVID-19 epidemiological summary released by the Health Ministry yesterday, April 21 shows that along with the 95 cases, there are now four persons currently hospitalised as a result of contracting the virus.
The epidemiological summary also shows that the bulk of these cases – 86 infected persons – reside on the main island of Tortola while a scant few reside on Virgin Gorda (eight persons). Only one infected person has been found on Jost Van Dyke, based on tests conducted.
It should be noted that the latest figures for the current active cases reflect testing that was done on April 20 and reported on April 21.
The summary also classified 62 of the infected persons as local cases and indicated that 24 persons have tested positive for COVID-19 between entry screening on day-zero and day-five.
Some 17,187 persons have been recorded as being fully vaccinated while a further 1,443 persons are listed as partially vaccinated, according to the Health Ministry.
Just days ago, the government announced a relaxation of COVID-19 protocols and put an end to the quarantine requirements for persons entering the territory.
The government also advised that wearing a mask outdoors is no longer required.
At the time, Health Minister Carvin Malone said, “these relaxation in protocols are in keeping with international and regional norms given the less severe impacts of the new variants, the current capabilities of the health system, the ready availability of vaccines, balanced with the need to continue to allow increasing levels of economic activity moving forward.”
According to Malone who has continued to insist that the BVI is not out of the proverbial woods with regard to the virus, the new relaxed measures shift further responsibility towards the public in taking personal responsibility to manage and mitigate their own risks associated with COVID-19.

Oh, yall wanted to jump up?
Shutdown coming
This was bound to happen. I find that the numbers are lower than what I expected but I suspect that there is more to come. “When they say peace, then comes sudden distruction” I encourage everyone to do everything in their ability to stay safe. Do not become the next Covid statistic. Peace.
Expect a surge in covid cases when COI report becomes public. Then expect the return of restrictions. Any government in peril resort to calamities as their saving grace.
Didn’t we just have a big regatta so how come cases didn’t rise. Hmm so only when black people event is on the cases rise, big setup smh talk about targeting
Don’t fool all you self. They were steadily increasing ever since the relaxing of the quarantine measures, physical distancing and mask wearing protocols but the Health Dept failed to report.
I’ve heard on the news with my own ears from scientist, that If you get Covid a first time and Survived, it’s difficult for you to get it a second time, “Getting it the first time Just as effective as the vaccine offer a protection from getting it the second time”, (not impossible because vaccinated people still get it.) but if you do get it the second time and survived you will never get it a third time because your body immune mechanism would be construct and adjusted to quickly recognized the present of the virus in the body and would quickly fight it off..Upon hearing this I said to my girl friend, who was listening with me, wow, wow, I never heard of this before Why are they hiding this information from us. In other words the highest chance of dying will be the first time you get the virus,,The second time the chances of dying is very low,,There will never be a third time..We all know this kind of information will be caught and get killed by the millionaires and billionaires and the people benefiting from the Virus, So don’t be surprised if you never hear it. I was fortunate enough to hear it..Bring me to think, the Bible don’t lie, nothing last forever, ” No matter how hard man try”, everything shall past, this too will past..
There are many more cases as people either think they just have a cold or flu or don’t want to report it to the government. Stay vigilant.
