BVI has spiritual problem politics can’t fix
The British Virgin Islands continues to reel from deep political divisions, rising crime, and uneasy relations with the United Kingdom, as the territory struggles to rebuild public trust after years of scandal and scrutiny.
The Commission of Inquiry exposed systemic failures of governance, violent crime has shaken communities, and bitter debates rage over the UK’s role in reforming local institutions.
But according to talk show host Claude Skelton Cline, the BVI’s problems run deeper than politics. Speaking on his Honestly Speaking programme, Skelton Cline declared that the Virgin Islands is being eaten away by a spiritual deficit.
“Politics is not the answer. It’s easy to talk about politics but the greater truth is we have a spiritual problem in the nation, and indeed the earth,” he said. “That’s the root. We have a disconnect between the creator and the created, between humanity and divinity. There is a breach. There is a chasm between us.”
Without calling names, the talk show host also suggested that the pursuit of political dominance in the territory has gone beyond backroom deals and crossed into the spiritual realm. His comments imply that some leaders are bound by covenants that have nothing to do with serving the people — a charge certain to ignite fierce debate in a territory already grappling with questions of integrity in public life.
“We have leaders — and not the usual suspects — who have covenanted, who have erected altars, who have sacrificed and those who are yet prepared to sacrifice in pursuit of power and the maintenance of power,” he said.
A culture of fear and silence
Skelton-Cline — an unrelenting political critic — is often bashed by some sections of the community who accuse him of being less than objective in his weekly analysis of happenings in the political sphere. But he warned that fear prevents others from speaking “truth to power” and addressing the state of affairs in the territory. He also said true prophetic voices need to rise up and speak frankly to leaders to bring about the changes the society wants to see.
“The prophetic voices are lost in the dust. Right now they’re just prophesying personal prophecies and prosperity. But the true prophets — those who spoke truth to power, who confronted principalities and powers, who advised kings and queens, who took on empires — that kind of prophetic voice is absent,” the controversial clergyman preached.
Despite his fierce critique, Skelton Cline acknowledged that governance remains critical in shaping culture and guiding society. But he insisted that spiritual enrichment, as well as transformative leaders, are needed to advance the BVI.
“It takes a transformative messenger to help transform culture,” he said. “It takes transformative minds and leaders to move a people into crossing their Red Sea,” he added.

The spiritual problems begin with the so called spiritual leaders we have. People like you CSC should never have been allowed to wear a priest’s collar. You are worse than the sinners. Your other preacher uncle is another one. It must be hard for people to sit down and listen to the two you preach to people. You all are making a mockery of God but he will fix you both soon.
You
Fraud Skeleton-Crime will lead us out of the valley of death. he already has $350,000 of free money to get the party started. Let’s Go!!!
Starting with the man in the mirror amongst some of lack of spirituality.
Mr it’s because of people like you pretending to do God’s work but going about deceiving people and always defrauding people.
I tired of this man
Spiritual wickedness in high and low places
I am more convinced than ever that this man has no shame at all. Continue to play with God Sir. Day run until night catch it.
Is this man for real? Can’t believe people go im church to hear this lunatic. He is plainly said to you who does that you’re worst than him
I agree wholeheartedly with your Comments, BUT CSC is Right with his Lyrics. Our Problems stem from Our so-called Spiritual Leaders partaking in All of the Corruption and keeping quiet for their own Financial Gains. God is calling on the Remnants of the Church to Rise up and Stand up and Speak up on what is wrong in this territory BUT where are They?? Why are they so silence? This Territory does have a Problem with Spirituality. God is Not pleased with His so-called Spiritual Leaders. It an abomination!!!!
All the Corruption and the Obeah and other Ills that are plaguing this territory MUST be eradicated in order for the people to be Free. Imagine the Dictatorship Behaviour of some of our Leaders we know who they are, Not listening to Nobody is that normal? No its Not. They Think Obeah is stronger than God’s Wrath and they will be able to carry on forever. But God is ready for them. All this Behaviour is soon coming to a close. A Change is coming and sooner than We think. Only what is done for God will last. God will rise up his Anointed to Lead the people of this Territory out of the Wilderness. Out of the Mess that we are in. We have to Not get weary in well doing But Pray without ceasing for that time to come and its coming soon. CSC might be described as all kinds of Things But some of his Lyrics are True. There are those who know what he is saying is true But will Not want to admit that He is Right. The Time is soon coming when this territory will be exposed and All the so-called Spiritual Leaders who think that they can Fool the people, they too will be exposed. This territory MUST get a Shake-up!!!!!
I cannot question his authority in knowing about these matters.
