BVI in ‘danger zone’ for fever and respiratory syndrome cases

The British Virgin Islands (BVI) has been placed in the “danger zone” for the number of active cases of fever and respiratory syndromes in the territory.

This is according to the Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit (ESU) in the Ministry of Health, which said there “a significant increase in reports of fever and respiratory syndromes in both the over and under five age groups”

In an health alert dated May 29, the Ministry of Health said: “Last week’s increase is associated with an increase of SARS-CoV-2 cases, which represents approximately 51 percent of Fever and Respiratory reports,” the ESU mentioned.

Although the cases presented are only mild currently, the ESU advises the public to remain vigilant and advises the healthcare providers to conduct necessary tests on patients presenting with ILI and ARI symptoms, influenza, COVID-19 and dengue.

They were also advised to re-implement wearing masks to enforce proper hand and respiratory hygiene practices. The ESU requests that the reports are accurate, complete, and on time.

  1. Nonsense says:

Nothing sacred in this place? The letter said “dear providers” and had things in there for them to do. Instead of leaking it causing panic, why not do what it asked?

Wonder if they leaking patient info to their friends too. This is why I don’t go to no doctor here.

It is much better to inform the public rather than keep the information secret. There is nothing in there that is confidential. We, the public, can act appropriately as a result of publishing this information. We need more transparency, not less.
