BVI placed under Tropical Storm Watch!
A Tropical Storm Watch has been issued for the British Virgin Islands.
This means tropical storm conditions are expected to affect the territory within the next 48 hours.
The watch is in relation to the weather system currently being referred to as Tropical Depression Seven.
Some strengthening is forecast during the next couple of days, and the depression is expected to become a tropical storm tonight (Friday, August 13) or on Saturday.
As of 5 pm today, the weather system was located about 742 miles east of Road Town.
The depression is moving toward the west near 22 miles per hour with maximum sustained winds near 35 mph with higher gusts.
“On the forecast track, the centre of the depression is forecast to move over the Leeward Islands Saturday night, over the Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico on Sunday, and then over the Dominican Republic on Monday,” the Department of Disaster Management said in a weather bulletin Friday evening.
